The optimal dosage for best results is 2 servings per day (1 morning, 1 afternoon), which is 60 servings per month. However, we suggest gradually working up to the optimal 2 daily servings to ease your digestive system into the high nutrient load.

Dissolve a stick pack in cold or room temperature water, tea (not hot) or other beverage, adjust to taste (we recommend around 16 oz.) and enjoy! You can also add ice cubes or use sparkling water, juice or other cold beverages or food. In the first 11 days, in order to adapt to Brain Ritual®'s high nutrient load, please take half a serving twice a day, morning and afternoon. Beginning on days 12 through 22, increase to 1 full serving per day (half in the morning, half in the afternoon). On days 23 through 27, increase to 1.5 servings per day (split into morning and afternoon). Thereafter, take 2 full servings of Brain Ritual® daily (1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon) for optimal long-term results. Everyone is different though, please feel free to ramp up more slowly or quicker, if your GI system needs more or less time to adapt.

Metabolism can be a root cause of migraine, but not in all cases. It’s an extremely heterogeneous disorder and there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution. Approximately half of migraine sufferers might have suboptimal metabolism contributing to migraine, but it is still early to give an exact percentage here.

Many of the nutrients contained in Brain Ritual® are also part of a prenatal formulation and ketone bodies are important for a baby's brain development. However, due to Brain Ritual® being a medical food for migraine, some nutrients such as riboflavin come in very high doses and this has not been studied in pregnant women. Please consult with your medical doctor before using Brain Ritual® during pregnancy or lactation.

Brain Ritual® is a medical food. Medical foods, being neither drugs nor supplements, are defined in section 5(b) of the Orphan Drug Act (21 U.S.C. 360ee (b) (3)) and are regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They fall under the same strict requirements as food production and must consist of ingredients which are generally recognized as safe. Similar to supplements, there is no pre-market approval.

Yes, Brain Ritual® is keto-friendly. It's developed to support brain health and migraine management, aligning with the principles of a ketogenic diet. Brain Ritual® contains ingredients like D-Beta-Hydroxybutyrate (as R-3-Hydroxybutyric Acid Calcium Magnesium Salts), which is the most abundant ketone body that a body produces during a ketogenic diet. The added functional sugars are sugars in the chemical sense of the words, but do not raise blood glucose, as they are metabolized differently and in the case of ribose are used as building blocks.

There are no major systemic side effects. Minor side effects may include gastrointestinal distress, due to high mineral and nutrient load. We suggest gradually working up to the optimal 2 daily servings to ease your digestive system into the high nutrient load. Please start with half a serving per day in the 11 days and continue slowly ramping up based on our 30-day ramp-up guidelines, adapting as needed. Should you still experience GI distress, try taking Brain Ritual® after a meal or sip it throughout the day to reduce the mineral load on an empty stomach and if persistent please reduce the dose by half. The B vitamins in Brain Ritual® may turn your urine yellow, this is harmless. Always check with your medical professional, if you are experiencing any side effects.

Yes, people with chronic migraines can use Brain Ritual® long-term. Brain Ritual® is designed with a focus on addressing nutritional deficiencies linked to migraines and supporting overall brain health, making it suitable for ongoing use. Unlike many migraine drugs, Brain Ritual® has no systemic side effects, making it a safer option for long-term management.

We recommend a low-carb or low glycemic index diet consisting of whole foods. This may further help in managing your migraine. However, dietary modification is not necessary when taking Brain Ritual®.

With a high load of nutrients, including many vitamins and minerals (including high doses of those key for migraine management, such as B2), any combination with a supplement should be consulted with your doctor. 

Brain Ritual® has no added sugar and contains only 7g of carbohydrates. Brain Ritual® is naturally sweetened with two carefully selected functional sugars: Allulose & D-Ribose. Allulose is a naturally derived sweetener often better tolerated among migraineurs, that does not raise blood sugar (glucose) or insulin levels. D-Ribose is a naturally occurring functional sugar that helps the brain make ATP — the body’s main energy currency — supporting energy production and repair when demand is high.

Diarrhea and gastrointestinal upset may occur due to the high mineral and nutrient load in Brain Ritual®. To reduce digestive issues, try taking it after a meal or sip it throughout the day. As discussed in detail above, one of the most consistently reported changes in migraine is abnormal energy metabolism. Therefore, migraineurs seem to have distinct metabolic and nutrient requirements for an additional and more efficient energy source and/or improved energy production overall.

The specific nutritional and metabolic requirements of migraineurs cannot be met with simple adaptations of a normal diet.Firstly, the levels of many key ingredients of Brain Ritual® such as magnesium and riboflavin are specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of migraine sufferers and are not achievable through a normal diet.Furthermore, while ketosis can be achieved via a ketogenic diet, it is hard to maintain in the long term and sufferers that have over consumed analgesics for decades can struggle with liver function – the primary place of ketone bodies’ A ketogenic diet is based on very limited carbohydrate and moderate protein intake with a simultaneous increase in fat consumption, which imitates some aspects of fasting and resets the body to lipid-based metabolism, i.e. obtaining ketone bodies through FAO (fatty acid oxidation) in the liver. A strict ketogenic diet usually results in values around 2 mmol/l – with nutritional ketosis beginning at 0.5mM (Poff et al., 2020). However, there may be side effects and some risks it entails long-term (Kossoff et al., 2018), as it requires a drastic reduction of foods such as fruits and colorful vegetables, which are generally considered as healthy. These include gastrointestinal problems, increase in blood cholesterol, deficiencies in minerals and other nutrients, and – on a psychological level – social constraints. Constant fasting and/or strict ketogenic diet (to the extent of reaching therapeutic levels of ketosis meaning under 20g of carbs per day) is extremely hard to sustain long-term and adherence is one of the main problems (Maalouf et al., 2009) and it can hardly be considered an adaptation of normal diet. Moreover, if not monitored properly it can result in other complications such as kidney stones (Sampath et al., 2007) or increase in blood cholesterol (Gross et al., 2019).Therefore, bioidentical exogenous ketone bodies, in the form of D-beta-hydroxybutyrate (D-BHB) mineral salts, in addition to various micronutrients and antioxidants that have been shown to be beneficial in migraine, could provide a feasible alternative with improved compliance due to no demanding lifestyle changes and lack of other potential complications described above. Exogenous ketone bodies are those which are not produced by your body, but produced in the lab and delivered in a form of e.g. a powder, as in Brain Ritual®. They have the same chemical structure as the one produced by the liver and are known to be absorbed by the body and – depending on the type – metabolized in the liver or directly enter the blood circulation (Plecko et al., 2002). They can include only the active, D-BHB isomer, which makes them even more tolerable and effective than the racemic versions (Soto-Mota et al., 2020; Stubbs et al., 2017). This is the form of BHB used in Brain Ritual®. Studies have shown that exogenous supplementation can cause a rapid and sustained elevation of BHB (Kesl et al., 2016).

Migraine is the most common neurological disease, with about 1 billion sufferers across the world, out of which there are twice as many women than men (Stovner et al., 2018). It’s also the 2nd biggest cause of disability in the world and 1st among young women (Steiner et al., 2020). While its pathophysiology is not clear, hypoglycemia has been associated with migraine for almost a century (Gray & Burtness, 1935) and its symptoms (such as dizziness, pale skin, nausea, low blood pressure, tiredness, sugar cravings, cognitive difficulties) bear striking resemblance to those associated with migraine, particularly in the premonitory phase (Binder & Bendtson, 1992). A large number of studies in migraine point towards a variety of different metabolic abnormalities, and in fact, one of the most consistently reported changes in migraine is energy metabolism, including mitochondrial dysfunction (S. Ashina et al., 2021) and higher fasting glucose levels (Cavestro et al., 2007; Gross, Lisicki, et al., 2019; Siva et al., 2018). Hypothalamus (controlling homeostasis) is known to be activated early on during migraine attacks (Denuelle et al., 2007; Maniyar et al., 2014; Schulte et al., 2016). Moreover, dysfunctional metabolic responses have been observed after GTT in several studies of sufferers with migraine (Shaw et al., 1997), as have been interictal impairments of glucose tolerance (Cavestro et al., 2007; Dexter et al., 1978). These various abnormalities in combination with unfavourable environmental factors can lead to a higher energy expenditure than supply and might determine disease severity.

As described above, migraine can be considered a metabolic disorder and as a consequence, migraineurs have specific metabolic and nutritional requirements, which include a need for an additional and more efficient energy source, and support alongside the energy production process.
